Charlie Todd

Charlie Todd is a New York-based comedian and director known for orchestrating extraordinary moments of surprise and delight in ordinary places.

In 2001 Charlie created Improv Everywhere, a project that pioneered large-scale surprise public performances, long before anyone had heard of the term “flash mob.” An early adopter of YouTube, Charlie was one of the first creators on the platform in 2006, and his Improv Everywhere channel defined an entire genre of comedy for the Internet age. The projects Charlie has directed for Improv Everywhere have received half a billion lifetime views.

Building on the success of Improv Everywhere, Charlie has brought his unique brand of chaos and joy to television, recently serving as executive producer and director of the Disney+ series “Pixar In Real Life.” He’s also created and executive produced series and pilots for NBC, MTV, and Pop TV.

As a commercial director, Charlie has directed projects for brands like Target, Hulu, and ESPN, working with his longtime collaborators, production company DVRG. View his director’s portfolio here.

As a keynote speaker, Charlie has given talks at TED, PopTech, the MoMA, and dozens of college campuses and corporate conferences around the world.

Charlie is the author of Causing a Scene, a book about Improv Everywhere published by HarperCollins. He is also the subject of the documentary We Cause Scenes, which premiered at SXSW. On stage, Charlie has been a performer at the legendary Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre for over twenty years.

Charlie resides in Hell’s Kitchen with his wife Cody Lindquist, their two sons, and his three bikes. He serves on Manhattan Community Board 4 and is a safe streets advocate. He likes going to concerts, exploring New York with his kids on a cargo bike, and sitting in hot tubs.
